Reflection

Creating this website not only made researching a topic fun but also offered a unique way to share it with others. You are still able to provide the appropriate information but show it in a new approach. You can choose whatever template you like and start creating from there. The site is completely your own and you can make it very personable. People who view your site are able to receive the information and also get a feel who you are in the process.

I learned how to look for scholarly article through the use of the UNT library as well as though google scholar. Using these types of resources insures that you are receiving the very best information you can. Every article is written by someone who has done extensive research on the topic. I also learned who to look for what I needed without reading the entire article. The things you really need to pay attention to is the results, discussion, and conclusion. This is where you find the good stuff. All the information is provided for you, all you need to do is look in the right places.

I really enjoyed looking for the videos. There are so many people out there with great information. I did however, have a hard time looking for TED talks. There was not a whole lot on the topic I was researching. I looked at YouTube for answers. Surprisingly, they had some really great videos. Everything from parents to teachers to librarians, everyone had something to say about how to choose the right book for a reader. The material in the videos were very enlightening. I was able to hear stories from others and what they have learned from working with students.

I also loved looking for technology to use with young readers. I come from a generation who did not have technology of any kind in the classroom. So, see what all was out there was extremely inspiring. Literature games, read alongs, and even book for all ages. There really is an application or website for everything. They are so helpful and will definitely be used in my future classroom. One of my favorites was Storyline Online. It is an online library filled with books for all ages with each book a follow along video. This means you can expose readers at an early age. Even if they are not reading yet, the videos are very engaging and have the words at the bottom for them to follow along. This would also help them with word association. They can see and hear the words. It also can help find books that interests any reader. Even if they do not like reading, they are still being revealed to literacy.

Being able to put teaching tips in the website is very helpful. I was able to research what has worked and what has not and shared my findings with others. I’m wanting to be an early childhood educator and finding the right book to read is crucial. I found how to evaluate picture books with a set of questions. Everything from content to illustrations. There are so many aspects for evaluating books than I thought. This is something I will take into consideration every time I choose a book for my classroom.
